Female Athlete of the Week:
Trish Van Vaerenbergh – Women’s Hockey
Facing the top ranked team in Canada, Trish Van Vaerenbergh raised her level of play and was one of the top Pronghorns in both contests, despite the ‘Horns earning only a single point on the weekend versus the UBC Thunderbirds.
Friday night in the ‘Horns 5-1, Van Vaerenbergh was a consistent threat using her speed and leading the ‘Horns in shots on goal with seven. She was a key cog in the ‘Horns penalty killing unit that killed off all seven Thunderbird power play attempts.
Saturday night, Van Vaerenbergh scored shorthanded in the second period to give the ‘Horns a 3-2 lead but the ‘Horns could not hold the T-Birds off, falling 4-3 in overtime. She recorded another three shots on goal in the game.
Through 10 games, Van Vaerenbergh sits third in team scoring with one goal and three assists and is second on the team in shots with 14.
The ‘Horns will enjoy their bye week this week, before returning to action to face the Mount Royal Cougars in a home-and-home series, November 18th and 19th.
