Male Athlete of the Week:
Garret Hughson – Men’s Hockey
After being named the WHL grad of the month for December, second-year goaltender picked up where he left off and led the Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s hockey team to a weekend split with the U SPORTS third-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies to start the New Year.
In the Pronghorns first game of the second semester, Hughson stopped 37 of 40 Huskie shots, including 15 in the first period alone, in a 3-2 loss. The next night, the Foremost, Alberta product stopped another 34 shots to backstop the Pronghorns to a 4-2 win over the Huskies. He also recorded an assist in the win, his third of the season.
Hughson has been the goalie of record in all of the Pronghorn wins this season and holds a 3.30 goals-against average and a 0.911 save percentage.
Battling for a playoff spot, Hughson and the Pronghorns face another important weekend, facing provincial rival Mount Royal Cougars in a home-and-home series. The weekend set starts in Calgary on Friday night and concludes Saturday night in Lethbridge at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
