Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 3, 2019
Male Athlete of the Week:
Ben Ingvaldson – Men’s Track
 
 
Defending Canada West Champion and reigning U SPORTS Male Field Athlete of the Year is rounding into form and claimed two medals this past weekend in the throwing events at the Bison Classic in Winnipeg.
 
Leading a Pronghorn sweep of the podium in the shot put event, Ingvaldson took home top spot with a furthest throw of 15.23 metres, more than a metre farther than teammate Greg McCarthy. Ingvaldson in fact had the four farthest throws in the entire competition.
 
The Surrey, B.C. product followed up that performance with a bronze medal in the weight throw, finishing just behind teammate Andreas Troschke with a throw of 16.79 metres. Pronghorn throwers claimed five of six podium spots in the two throwing events.
 
Ingvaldson and the rest of the Pronghorn Track team will head to Edmonton for the last meet prior to the Canada West Championships, also hosted in Edmonton, February 22nd and 23rd
Female Athlete of the Week:
 
Sandra Latrace – Women’s Track
 
Competing in her second meet of the season Pronghorn track and field athlete Sandra Latrace continued her early season dominance in her two events, winning both the 60 metre dash and long jump gold medals this past weekend in Winnipeg at the Bison Classic.
 
In the 60 metre, Latrace finished first in the preliminary heats with the fastest time of 7.56 seconds. In the finals she was first to cross the finish line with a time of 7.53 to win her second gold in as many meets.
 
The reigning U SPORTS gold medalist in the long jump continued her supremacy in the event winning the Bison Classic by more than 35 centimetres with a jump of 5.76 metres.
 
Latrace will compete in her final meet prior to the Canada West Championships this weekend, traveling to Edmonton to compete in the Panda Classic. University of Alberta will host the Canada West Championships February 22nd and 23rd.
