Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 20, 2019

Male Athlete of the Week:
Damon Field – Men’s Soccer

Closing out his first Canada West season, Pronghorn men’s soccer rookie Damon Field capped off an impressive first season with the program this past weekend

Saturday afternoon, the 6-foot-6 defender got his head on the end of a Pronghorn corner kick to score his first career Canada West goal and earn the Pronghorns a 1-1 tie on the road versus the MacEwan Griffins.

The Calgary, Alberta product started all 14 games as a freshman and played every single minute for the Pronghorns. In addition to scoring his first Canada West goal, Field became a very valuable member of the Pronghorns defensive core and has a bright future as a Pronghorn.

Female Athlete of the Week:
Anneke De Klerk – Women’s Soccer

Pushing towards a berth in the Canada West post-season, first-year Pronghorn women’s soccer defender Anneke De Klerk, helped the Pronghorns secure the final playoff spot in the Prairie Division during the final weekend of the season.

Over the two games, De Klerk played in all 180 minutes and held the offences of both the Winnipeg Wesmen and Manitoba Bisons in check for majority of the games.
Her defensive positioning and ability to win the ball through the middle of the field were instrumental in help the Pronghorns secure the playoff berth in their hard-fought 1-1 tie Friday night versus the Winnipeg Wesmen.

On the season, the local product has started every game and played all 90 minutes of each game, while establishing herself as an impactful player on the Pronghorns backline in her first season.

De Klerk and the Pronghorn women’s soccer team heads to Saskatoon this weekend and will face the UBC Thunderbirds Friday afternoon in the first game of the Canada West playoffs. The winner will advance to face the Saskatchewan Huskies Sunday afternoon.
