Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 4, 2022
Male Athlete of the Week:
Danilo Morales – Men’s Soccer
Local product Danilo Morales had an offensive out break this past weekend, having a hand in all three of the Pronghorns goals during the home opening weekend.
Morales’ offensive presence allowed the Pronghorns to create chances and put pressure on the opposition. He was relentless in the attacking half and cause many moment of destabilization the Pronghorns to take advantage of.
The fourth-year midfielder scored both goals in the Pronghorns 3-2 loss to the MacEwan Griffins and set up the lone goal in the 2-1 loss to the Alberta Golden Bears.
This weekend, Morales and the Pronghorns head to Calgary to face the Mount Royal Cougars and Calgary Dinos, Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Mercedes Bourgeois – Women’s Soccer
Seeing action in her first game of the season, centre back Mercedes Bourgeois came off the bench and provided a spark at both ends of the field for the Pronghorns.
Entering the game after the Pronghorns trailed 3-0 in the 30th minute, she made an immediate impact. She made many crucial tackles as well having a hand in both goals on the day.
Early in the second half, the Calgary product scored her first career goal to cut the deficit to two goals and then started the play that led to the Pronghorn second goal scored by Kaleigh Harris.
Bourgeois and her Pronghorn teammates will head west this weekend to face the Trinity Western Spartans and Fraser Valley Cascades.
