Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 10, 2021.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Thomas Denness – Men’s Soccer
Second-year defender Thomas Denness had a hand on both ends of the field this past weekend as the Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s soccer team picked up their first points of the season with a 1-1 draw against the Alberta Golden Bears.
The 6-foot-2 Millarville, Alberta product assisted on the Pronghorn lone goal on Saturday and was back at it Sunday with his long ball springing Karim Bey for the game’s opening goal in a 2-1 loss to the Bears.
In addition to his offensive flare, Denness was equally effective on the defensive side of the ball and limiting Golden Bear scoring chances in both games.
This season, Denness leads the Pronghorns in assists with two and is tied for the team lead in points as well.
The Pronghorns will travel north this weekend to take on the MacEwan Griffins in Edmonton.
Female Athlete of the Week:
Ellie Kabayama – Women’s Soccer
Playing out of her natural position, local product Ellie Kabayama was instrumental in helping the Pronghorn women’s soccer team earn a weekend split versus the Alberta Pandas this past weekend.
Moving into a centre back position, Kabayama’s performance and leadership on the pitch gives the team a boost each and every game. Her consistent tough tackling and never give up attitude provides the frame work for the Pronghorn team.
Through eight games this season, Kabayama has registered one assist and seven shot attempts from the backline.
The Pronghorns head out on the road this coming weekend, traveling to Edmonton to face the MacEwan Griffins.
