Female Athlete of the Week:
Sandra Latrace – Women’s Track
Competing in her fourth Canada West Championships, new media student Sandra Latrace continued to add to her impressive resume and increased her career Canada West medal total to nine with two more conference medals this past weekend in Saskatoon.
Latrace opened the meet with her fourth consecutive Canada West gold medal in the long jump with a leap of 5.97 metres.
The Brooks, Alberta product completed the Canada West meet with a bronze medal in the 60 metre dash and now sits with five gold, two silver and two bronze Canada West medals to her name in four seasons.
Latrace will enter the U SPORTS Championships in two weeks’ time at the University of Alberta as the top seed in long jump and ranked fifth in the 60 metre sprint.
Male Athlete of the Week
Andreas Troschke – Men’s Track
The third time was the charm for Pronghorn thrower Andreas Troschke this past weekend at the Canada West Track and Field Championships in Saskatoon.
In his first two Canada West Championships, the Olds, Alberta product narrowly missed the podium in the weight throw, placing fourth in both years but with a furthest throw 17.47 metres he took home his first Canada West gold medal.
Looking for his third national medal, Troschke will enter the U SPORTS Championships in Edmonton ranked second behind a thrower from Laval.
The U SPORTS Championships will be hosted by the University of Alberta, March 5th to 7th.
